                                                                   NEVETA

Neveta has been active with brittanys since our first brittany, Neveta's Deacon arrived in 1970.  In 1976 she was elected secretary of the Heart of Illinois Brittany Club and has retained that position ever since.  She has served on many committees of that organization including nominating, Christmas party, Hunt Test, Marshall of Field Trials, Field Trial Secretary, Field Trial Chairperson, Trophy, Constitution, Ribbons, Judges gifts and many more.  She has received honors from HIBC:  Just Because Award and Honored for service twice.

The National Organization, The American Brittany Club has been supported by Neveta also.  She has attended National Events (Championships, Classics, Futurities, Shows and Board Meetings...)  She was asked to be on the ABC policy book revision committee.  Once the book was revised she was named chairman of this committee and keeps the policy book up to date for members and regional clubs.  In 2003, she was named ABC Futurity Secretary and served in this position until 2007.

The State of Illinois has a state wide organization governing field trials.  The Field Trial Clubs of Illinois (FTCI) elected her to the office of Secretary-Treasurer in 1991.  She has been involved with this organization since then serving on various committees and seeing to the efficient running of this organization.  Involvement includes creating a policy book, DOTY awards banquet, Continental Breed Winners Classic, working with IDNR to rewrite the administrative rules, collecting fees, and keeping members informed.  The organization inducted Neveta into the Honor Roll in 2000.  In 2013 Neveta was named Sportsman of the Year.

Helping with record keeping and chore duties at Nevene Kennels keeps her busy at home.  She can often be seen with Gene tending to the daily needs of their dogs.  She accompanies him to field trials and shows.  She has shown, handled, and scouted.  Scouting is her preference as she prefers Gene to be the handler.  He's much better with that part in the field.

She has served as Vice President, President Elect and President and Past President of Altrusa, a service organization.  Currently she's the Treasurer  of the organization.  Some of her duties include e-mails to the members and keeping up the yearbook for the members.  She is always serving at some function for Altrusa in some fashion.  She created the Style Show program for 3 years.  She has served as co-chair for the Scholastic Book Fair.  Chairing the auction and picnic was one of the fun events held in September.  She is editor of the Altrusagram and serves as district Six Webmaster.

Teaching has been an important part of the Salmon's household.  Neveta has taught at all levels and recently retired as a part time instructor at JWCC.  She workedin the Community Services Department teaching non-credit computer classes.  She has taught students from age 4 - age 99.  Teaching at the ag center has been her most recent assignment.

Neveta enjoys time with her husband, children (Cheryl & Jerry) and her grandchildren (Andy, Katie, Austin, and Heather).
